The session started with a documentary presentation based on mother dairy from which our students gathered an insight about the company, its products and various policies. Mother Dairy officials explained the profile, aims, objectives and the philosophy of operations of Mother Dairy. Mother dairy-Delhi is one of the largest milk plants in Asia. It started its operations in 1974 under the operations Flood Programme of the National Dairy Development Board (NDDB). Presently mother dairy sells more than 28 lakh litres of milk per day as compared to its competitors - Milkman - 18-20 lakh and Amul - 15-16 lakh. Mother Dairy sells various milk products and other food items at national level like Liquid Milk, Curd, Butter, Lassi, Flavoured Milk, Ice-Cream, Dhara range of edible Oils and Safal range of fresh fruits, vegetables, frozen vegetables and fruit juices.

In 1994, Mother Dairy started diversifying by marketing Ice cream through its milk shops and select retail outlets. To educate and increase awareness about milk and milk products Mother dairy has set up a Consumer Information Department wherein consumers are made aware of various aspects related to its products.

Thereafter, a power point presentation was organized for the students which highlighted how milk is procured from rural areas, hygiene maintainenance at the point of milking the animal, benefits to the farmers, the stages through which milk is processed –clarification ,standardization, homogenization and pasteurization, benefits of milk and milk products, ice-cream manufacturing process etc.

After the presentation, the students had a detailed interactive session wherein they were given a detailed explanation about the Marketing Strategies, Distribution Strategies and the Channels used and HR practices followed. Students' queries were also answered.

An important learning experience for the students was demonstration of how milk is adulterated and how adulteration is detected. This is absolutely necessary to maintain the standard and safety of the product consumed by the children, old and everyone on faith of purity.

Apart from getting an insight into a vital sector touching the lives of everyone, students had an opportunity for detailed interaction with senior executives on Human Resources Management and other management practices at Mother Dairy.

We were also informed about the HR related activities at Mother Dairy. They religiously believe in Regular Training Programs, this basically helps the employees to know what exactly is expected from them. Also, they have a policy of Total Employee Involvement ( TEI). " Kaizen " is the key element of the process and the employees are always encouraged to innovate and devise new strategies.

Every year the employees are rewarded on the basis of their performance and this serves as a motivational tool for all the people associated with Mother Dairy.

At the end of the visit, students had a delicious treat of varieties of flavored milk and ice -cream. All in all it was a great learning experience for the students of Global School of Management Science.
